Teaching mindfulness skills in a high school in Slovenia
This paper will overview the results of a twelve-week programme teaching mindfulness to high school students from March to June 2014 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The programme, originally designed by Tamara Ditrich and Catherine Ramos (Nan Tien Institute) was translated into Slovene and taught to a small group of students (aged 15-19 years) in one of the most prestigious (and competitive) high schools in Slovenia. This was the first time mindfulness had been introduced in Slovenia and therefore, was a pilot project. The main aim of the programme being to teach mindfulness skills to the students and to evaluate the responses and experiences of the students during the course. A quantitative questionnaire (Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) (Baer et al.2006; 2008) as well as qualitative (semi-structured interviews) methods were used. This paper will present the results of the qualitative research and outline the main themes emerging from the analysis of the interviews.
