Mindfulness in Australian school using a twelve week mindfulness teacher programme
The scope of this paper is to explore the efficacy of a twelve week mindfulness training programme (12WMTP), specifically designed for Australian high school students, with a focus on ethics and lovingkindness. The programme aimed to explicitly teach both the theory and practice of mindfulness to students. The experiences of students were recorded in a series of interviews, a research journal and student surveys were gathered for data analysis. The interviews explored the student’s experiences with the mindfulness techniques and changes in their daily lives as a result of the 12WMTP, particularly focused on their perceptions of the self, others, conflict, problems and issues, insight and knowledge and, love and kindness. This paper will examine the emerging themes through a number of case studies and the possible applications of a mindfulness programme in schools and implications for schools.
